Tendon Kohaku Vancouver – Brand New Menu With Extra Large Bowls of Udon

Tendon Kohaku Vancouver is most well known for their epic bowls of tempura. If you’re a tempura lover, you probably have already eaten here before. But did you know that they will be launching a brand new udon menu on December 14! They will still have their core selection of tempura bowls, but they will also have quite a few new bowls of udon to choose from. As a huge udon lover, I am so excited for this new menu expansion. Similar to Kokoro Tokyo Mazesoba, they will also offer free upsize on their udon bowls! Check out my full review of the new udon menu at Tendon Kohaku below.

Tendon Kohaku Vancouver – New Udon Menu and Classic Tempura Bowls

We got a sneak peek of the new menu ahead of the launch, so we got to try some of the new udon dishes as well as some classics from Tendon Kohaku Vancouver. On our visit we got:

  • Katsu Curry Udon ($17.95)
  • Mentaiko Cream Udon ($17.00)
  • Prawn Tempura Udon ($14.45)
  • Sashimi Aimori Tendon ($18.50) + Combo of Miso Soup and Cabbage Salad ($2.99)

The Katsu Curry Udon features Sanuki style udon noodles, Japanese curry, deep fried pork cutlet and green onion. This is a classic curry udon and it was so comforting on a cold night. The pork cutlet was perfectly fried with a crisp exterior but juicy meat. We also got this in the XXL size at no additional cost.

I adore mentaiko (spicy salted cod roe) so I knew I had to try the Mentaiko Cream Udon. This dish features noodles, cream sauce, mentaiko, seaweed and green onion. This was so creamy and flavourful. There was also notes of butter in the sauce that went so well with the slightly spicy mentaiko. This is a must order and a favourite of the night.

The Prawn Tempura Udon is the simpliest of all the udon dishes on offer and it features udon, deep fried prawn, fish cake, deep fried burdock root, green onion and soup. It is light and refreshing and the texture of the udon was perfect.

The Sashimi Aimori Tendon is a bowl we always get and it features 2 prawns, 1 chicken, 1 kabocha, 2 french beans and a sashimi mix of salmon, tobiko, scallop, sesame seeds, green onion and cucumber. It’s finished with fresh wasabi, kaisen sauce and Kohaku Tendon sauce. It’s the perfect balance of richness (from the tempura) and freshness (from the sashimi).

Worth a Try?

Yes! I’ve always been a fan of Tendon Kohaku, and I’m so happy that they are expanding their udon menu. The udon dishes that we tried were so yummy and the noodles were all perfectly cooked. I love that there is an option to upsize at no additional cost, and I find that the pricing is fair. The service is always very friendly and the staff are always on top of filling tea and water. Definitely give them a try when the new udon menu launches on December 14.
