Hello Nori has finally opened their much anticipated location at The Amazing Brentwood in Burnaby. They are the only hand roll bar in the Vancouver area and they are redefining the hand roll. Hello Nori uses the highest quality fresh seasonal seafood in their hand rolls. The set themselves apart with the warm rice, crispy nori and fresh seafood that is rolled and served right in front of you. As a huge fan of their Robson location, I am so happy to have one so much closer to home. From the moment you step inside, the atmosphere at Hello Nori is buzzing with energy. The minimalist yet stylish décor sets the stage for a great dining experience, while the friendly staff welcomes you with warm hospitality. Check out my full review of Hello Nori Brentwood below!
Hello Nori Brentwood – Fresh Hand Rolls and Sake
The best way to experience Hello Nori is to opt for their set menus. They have three options to choose from:
4 Hand Roll ($23) | 5 – Hand Roll ($29) | 6 – Hand Roll ($35) |
Toro Ora King Salmon Snow Crab Spicy Shrimp | Toro Yellow Tail Hokkaido Scallop Snow Crab Truffle Lobster | Toro Yellow Tail Ora King Salmon Hokkaido Scallop Snow Crab Truffle Lobster |
My personal favourite is always the 6 – Hand Roll set because it includes all of my favourites and is generally enough to keep me full for a meal. In addition to these sets there is options to order a la carte hand rolls (always ask for the daily special, on my visit it was ikura!). They also have sashimi, aburi oshi sushi and a variety of alcoholic and non alcoholic drink options.
No matter what filling you choose, the rice is always the perfect temperature and the nori is always so crispy. It’s such a great experience biting into the crispy nori.
The sashimi platter is fresh and it changes depending on what is fresh for the day. On our visit, there was tamago, seabream, scallop, salmon, tuna and poke.
For drinks we got the virgin Lychee cocktail and Coke (in a glass bottle!). Both drinks are very refreshing and a nice pairing for the hand rolls.
However, nothing beats pairing their hand rolls with Hello Nori’s own house label of sake ‘Hello Sake’. This is a premium junmai ginjo that is perfect chilled or at room temperature. At Hello Nori the sake is served with a short clear glass in a square wooden box called a masu cup. In Fedual Japan, these masu cups were used to measure rice portions in Japan. The sake is poured until overflowing to show their appreciation for your business.
Worth a Try?
Yes! Hello Nori is always an excellent experience and today’s visit was no exception. They’ve only been open for about a week or so and the hype is so real. I came by at 2 pm on a Saturday and there was a line to the door. The service is efficient but friendly and I appreciate how the chefs pace the rolls. Definitely worth a try, and keep your eye out for more locations coming soon to Vancouver.
