At the beginning of the year, Tacofino launched breakfast menus at four of their locations. Tacofino Kits, Hastings, Oasis, and Squamish has a small but tight breakfast menu available from 8am daily. The menu includes unique tacos, burritos, appetizers, and coffees. The all-new menu includes four appies, highlighted by the Loaded Breakfast Tots, three new tacos including a Chorizo and Egg Taco and a Potato and Egg Taco, as well three burrito options like the new staple Chorizo and Egg Burrito. Plant-based options include the Vegan Scramble Taco, and the Vegan Scramble Burrito. I came by earlier this week to try it out. Tacofino Metrotown – Breakfast Menu
Tacofino Metrotown is the first Tacofino in Burnaby. They opened last month at Station Square and features 40 seats to welcome patrons. It is located behind Kokoro Tokyo Mazesoba facing McKay Ave. Breakfast is available daily from 8 – 10:45 AM. I came by for breakfast and had the following:
- Loaded Breakfast Tots ($13.00)
- Potato and Egg Taco ($8.00)
- Chorizo and Egg Taco ($8.00)
- Chorizo and Egg Burrito ($16.00)
The breakfast tacos are served on a corn tortilla with a sunny side up egg. The Potato & Egg Taco features white cheddar and monterrey jack, chipotle mayo, salsa roja, pickled onion, cilantro. The egg yolk adds the perfect amount of decadence to this taco. The chipotle mayo has a nice kick as well.
The Chorizo & Egg Taco features the same ingredients as the Potato & Egg but with chorizo. The Chorizo is spicy and greasy which makes this the perfect hangover taco. Pro tip, order it with a side of guacamole.
The Loaded Breakfast Tots were the star of breakfast for us. It features fresh tater tots that are hot and crispy and then doused with cheese sauce, chorizo, salsa fresca, lime crema, cilantro. If that wasn’t enough decadence it also has two fried eggs on top. This is a must order dish for me!
The Chorizo and Egg Burrito features potatoes, black beans, salsa fresca, lime cream, salsa verde. This was a hefty one, and there is an option to make this a bowl. I will definitely do that next time because I tried to cut it in half and it was just a very messy burrito to eat.
Worth a Try?
Yes! The breakfast at Tacofino Metrotown is a solid breakfast option in Burnaby. The food was flavorful and fresh and I love that I can get everything I love about Tacofino so early in the morning. The process is super efficient, you place your order at the front and pay and then look for a table to sit at. The food was out in less than ten minutes and was fresh and hot. Overall definitely worth checking out!
