Mid-Autumn Festival is coming up, which means mooncake season has officially arrived in Vancouver. This year, Mid-Autumn Festival falls on Friday, September 25, 2026, and if you’re wondering where to buy the best mooncakes in Vancouver, there are plenty of options.
Growing up, mooncakes were always one of those foods that immediately signalled Mid-Autumn Festival was around the corner. The classic for my family is still a traditional Cantonese mooncake filled with lotus seed paste and salted egg yolks, cut into little wedges and shared with tea. But Vancouver’s mooncake scene has become a lot more interesting over the years.
You can still find all the traditional favourites, but there are now snow skin mooncakes, lava custard mooncakes, tea-infused mooncakes and modern flavours like matcha, hojicha and durian. Whether you’re buying a box to bring home to your parents, looking for an impressive Mid-Autumn Festival gift, or simply want an excuse to eat mooncakes, here are some of the best places to buy mooncakes in Vancouver and Richmond for Mid-Autumn Festival 2026.
A note before you shop: Mooncakes are highly seasonal and many of the smaller bakeries make limited quantities. Pre-order if you can. I’ll also continue updating this guide as more Vancouver bakeries release their 2026 Mid-Autumn Festival collections.
A Quick Guide to Mooncakes
If you didn’t grow up eating mooncakes, walking into an Asian supermarket during Mid-Autumn Festival can be a little overwhelming. There are a lot of options.
Here are the main types you’ll find around Vancouver:
- Traditional Cantonese Mooncakes – The classic. A thin baked crust surrounds a dense filling, usually lotus seed paste, white lotus seed paste or red bean. Salted duck egg yolks are often added to represent the full moon.
- Snow Skin Mooncakes – Soft, chewy and served chilled rather than baked. These tend to come in more contemporary flavours like mango, matcha, black sesame and custard.
- Lava Custard Mooncakes – Usually smaller than traditional mooncakes, with a rich salted egg custard centre that becomes soft and molten when warmed.
- Flaky Mooncakes – Made with layers of flaky pastry rather than the traditional Cantonese crust. Taiwanese and Teochew-style mooncakes often fall into this category.
- Modern Mooncakes – This is where Vancouver bakeries have gotten creative. Expect everything from tea and chocolate to fruit, pistachio and other pastry-inspired fillings.
Where to Buy the Best Mooncakes in Vancouver in 2026
1. Beaucoup Bakery – French Pastry Meets Mid-Autumn Festival

For something a little different from the traditional mooncakes I grew up eating, Beaucoup Bakery is bringing French pastry into the mix with its 2026 La Lune Collection.
This year’s Mooncake Maison Set ($28.00) features Beaucoup’s signature buttery sablé crust mooncakes in three flavours: Raspberry Pistachio, Black Sesame Roasted Corn, and Saffron Orange Blossom. They’re a more modern take on mooncakes and a great option if you’re looking for something a little unexpected, or a beautiful Mid-Autumn Festival gift.

But if you want to keep things traditional, the Grande Mooncake ($42.00) is making its return. This oversized Cantonese-style mooncake is made for sharing, filled with lotus seed paste and four salted duck egg yolks, and packaged in a decorative gold-coloured tin.
Mooncakes are available for pre-order online now, with pick-up at Beaucoup Bakery’s Fir Street and Dunsmuir Street locations.
Vancouver locations:
2150 Fir St, Vancouver, BC
602 Dunsmuir St, Vancouver, BC
Best for: Modern sablé mooncakes, traditional Cantonese mooncakes and gifting
2. Salty Sugar Patisserie – Tea-Infused Mooncakes

If traditional lotus seed mooncakes aren’t really your thing, Salty Sugar Patisserie has one of the more creative Mid-Autumn Festival collections in Vancouver.
They’ve teamed up with local Paragon Tea Room again for their artisanal Tea-Infused Lava Mooncakes, combining Asian tea flavours with rich, molten centres.
Each box of their 2026 Tea Infused Molten Mooncakes ($81.00) comes with six different flavours: Black Sesame Matcha Lava, Osmanthus Jasmine Green Tea Lava, Tangerine Pu-erh Chocolate Lava, Pandan Thai Lava, Rose Oolong Lava, and Genmaicha Salted Cheese Lava.
The last three are especially worth noting. Pandan Thai Lava has a new recipe for 2026, while Rose Oolong Lava and Genmaicha Salted Cheese Lava are new 2026 exclusives.
This is the box I’d bring to the friend who says they don’t like mooncakes. Between the tea-forward flavours and lava centres, they’re a pretty big departure from the dense traditional mooncakes many of us grew up eating.
Each mooncake is individually sealed, making the six-piece box easy to share or slowly work your way through yourself. This collection is now available for order.
Address: 6947 Victoria Dr, Vancouver, BC V5P 3Y7
Best for: Tea lovers, lava mooncakes and unique Mid-Autumn Festival gifts
3. Daan Go Cake Lab – Snow Skin & Traditional Mooncakes
If you want something a little more modern than the mooncakes you grew up with, Daan Go Cake Lab has two very different collections for Mid-Autumn Festival 2026.

Their Snow Skin Mooncake Set ($40.00) features four generously sized mochi-wrapped mooncakes with some seriously fun fillings: Hojicha Black Sesame Crunch, with roasted hojicha and a black sesame praline centre; Jamocha Nut, with chocolate pastry filling, almond lava and milk chocolate almond crumble; Mango Cheesecake, with mango gel and white chocolate graham crumble; and Salted Egg Yolk, with salted duck egg pastry cream, a salted egg lava centre and white chocolate coconut crisp.

For something closer to the classics, there’s also a Traditional Mooncake Set ($40.00). Although Daan Go has definitely put its own spin on it.
The four flavours include Pistachio Salted Egg filled with pistachio lotus seed paste with salted egg yolk center and pistachio pieces, Hojicha, White Lotus Seed Salted Egg, and Daan Go Style 5 Nut Mix, made with almonds, hazelnuts, pistachios, walnuts and sesame seeds with a red date salted caramel paste.
I particularly like that you can go in either direction here. There are familiar flavours for the traditionalists, but options like Mango Cheesecake and Hojicha Black Sesame Crunch for anyone who wants their mooncakes to feel more like dessert. Until September 10th they have a $10 off Super Early Bird preorder special (regularly $50).
Locations:
1450 W 7th Ave, Vancouver, BC
#100 – 4731 Garden City Rd, Richmond, BC
Best for: Snow skin mooncakes, modern flavours and gifting
4. La Saison de Patisserie – Snowy Lava Mooncakes

For another modern take on Mid-Autumn Festival, La Saison de Patisserie is bringing back its signature Snowy Mooncakes with six lava-filled flavours for 2026.
The collection includes Salted Egg Lava, Mango Pomelo Lava, Hong Kong Milk Tea Lava, Ube Lava, Matcha Red Bean Lava, and Black Sesame Lava.
I love that the flavours still feel distinctly Asian while moving away from the heavier lotus seed paste mooncakes. Hong Kong Milk Tea immediately caught my attention, while Mango Pomelo feels like a mooncake version of one of my favourite classic Chinese desserts.
Each box includes all six flavours and is priced at $59. If you’re buying for family, friends or even as a corporate Mid-Autumn Festival gift, they also offer group pricing at $499 for 10 boxes or $899 for 20 boxes.
With their soft snowy exterior and rich lava centres, these are definitely more dessert-like than traditional Cantonese mooncakes. This is a great option for anyone looking for snow skin mooncakes in Vancouver this year. You can order them now.
Address: 3868 Rupert St, Vancouver, BC V5R 6E4
Best for: Snowy mooncakes, lava fillings and modern Asian flavours
5. L’OTUS Cake Boutique – 2026 Mid-Autumn Festival Mooncake Collection

If you’re firmly on team lava custard, L’otus Cake Boutique has one of the most extensive lava mooncake collections in Vancouver this year, with gift boxes starting at just $28.
The signature Classic Golden Lava Custard Mooncake Gift Box ($88) keeps things simple with six individually wrapped Salted Egg Yolk Lava Mooncakes, filled with rich, savoury-sweet salted egg yolk custard and that all-important molten centre.
For anyone who wants to try everything, the Journey to the Moon Gift Box ($88) is the one to get. Inspired by the legend of Chang’e, it includes one of each of L’otus’s six flavours: Signature Salted Egg Yolk, Matcha Yuzu, Aged Tangerine Peel (Chenpi) Red Bean, Black Truffle, Velvety Mocha, and Roasted Oolong.
I particularly love the mix here because the flavours still feel distinctly Asian while being much more contemporary than the traditional lotus seed mooncakes many of us grew up with. The six-year aged Chenpi with red bean and Black Truffle Lava are especially intriguing.
And if you don’t need a full six-piece box, L’otus also has its Twin Moonlight Glow Gift Box ($28). You can choose any one of the six flavours and receive two individually packaged mooncakes of that flavour. It’s a great option if you just want to try them or need a smaller Mid-Autumn Festival gift without committing to an $88 box.
Mooncakes are available for order and pickup through September 27 at L’otus locations in Alderbridge, Burnaby and Cambie.
Best for: Lava custard mooncakes, unique flavours, smaller gift options and Mid-Autumn Festival gifting
6. Doe Coffee × Salty Sugar Patisserie – Modern Mooncakes
Doe Coffee is getting in on mooncake season this year with a special collaboration with Salty Sugar Patisserie, featuring three very modern takes on the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival treat.
The six-piece box comes with two of each flavour: Ube & Salted Egg Yolk, Strawberry Cheesecake, and Dubai Chocolate.
Ube and salted egg yolk brings together that sweet-savoury combination I love in modern mooncakes, while Strawberry Cheesecake takes things firmly into dessert territory. And because apparently Dubai chocolate really is making its way into everything, there’s a mooncake version of that too.
Each box is $75, with 10% off early-bird pricing of $67.50 available until September 5.
Mooncakes can be picked up on September 9, 16 or 23 at either Doe Coffee location, with delivery also available. Orders can be placed by emailing cx@doecoffee.com with your preferred pick-up date.
Vancouver locations:
2263 E Hastings St, Vancouver, BC
828 Clark Dr, Vancouver, BC
Best for: Creative flavours, Dubai chocolate mooncakes and gifting
7. Sungiven Foods – Traditional, Lava & Modern Mooncakes
If you want a lot of mooncake options without running all over Vancouver, Sungiven Foods is an easy one-stop shop for Mid-Autumn Festival.
Their 2026 collection covers pretty much every preference, from traditional White Lotus Seed Paste and Double Egg Yolks & White Lotus Seed Paste to more contemporary lava mooncakes.
The Lava Mooncake collection is where things get particularly interesting this year, with flavours including Pistachio, Matcha & Red Bean, Custard, Truffle, and assorted custard varieties.
For the traditionalists, there are plenty of classics including Red Bean Paste, Mixed Nuts, Double Egg Yolks & Jujube Paste, and even a jumbo Six Egg Yolks & White Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake. Yes, six egg yolks. It might be the most extra mooncake on this entire list.
There are also smaller pastries and individual mooncakes if you don’t want to commit to an entire gift box, with prices starting at $7.99.
With so many different styles and price points, Sungiven is a particularly good option if you’re shopping for a family where everyone has a very different idea of what the perfect mooncake should be.
Locations: Multiple Sungiven Foods locations throughout Metro Vancouver
Best for: Traditional mooncakes, lava mooncakes, variety and value
8. Saint Germain Bakery – Classic Mooncakes and Freshly Baked Lava Salted Egg Yolk Custard Mooncake

If there’s one mooncake I’d specifically seek out at Saint Germain Bakery, it’s their Salted Egg Yolk Custard Mooncake (8 pieces for $44.63).
Unlike the traditional boxed mooncakes that can sit on the shelf, these are freshly baked daily. Each box comes with eight mooncakes filled with rich salted egg yolk custard, wrapped in a golden baked crust.
If you love the sweet-and-savoury flavour of salted egg yolk, this is definitely one to add to your Mid-Autumn Festival list. I also love that they’re smaller than the classic lotus seed mooncakes, which makes it much easier to convince yourself that having another one is completely reasonable.
Saint Germain also carries a wider selection of traditional Mid-Autumn Festival mooncakes, but for me, the freshly baked custard version is the one worth making a special trip for.
With locations throughout Metro Vancouver, it’s also one of the more convenient places to pick up mooncakes without trekking all the way to Richmond.
Best for: Freshly baked mooncakes, salted egg yolk custard and an easy-to-share eight-piece box
Tip: Because these are freshly baked daily, I’d pick them up as close as possible to when you plan on eating or gifting them.
9. Teapurin – Japanese Tea Snowskin Mooncakes

For tea lovers, Teapurin is bringing back its Japanese Tea Snowskin Mooncakes for Mid-Autumn Festival 2026, and these might be some of the most delicate mooncakes on this list.
Instead of traditional lotus seed paste, each mooncake is made with Japanese tea-infused custard and a rich nama chocolate centre, all wrapped in a thin, soft layer of fresh mochi skin.
This year’s collection features three Japanese teas: Ceremonial Matcha from Uji, Kyoto; Hojicha from Shimane; and Kocha, a Japanese black tea also from Shimane.
What makes these especially worth seeking out is that every mooncake is made fresh on the day of pickup. Between the fresh mochi, creamy tea custard and nama chocolate centre, these lean much more towards a Japanese dessert than the traditional Cantonese mooncakes many of us grew up eating.
Pre-orders are available now for September pickup while quantities last.
Pick up address: #107-8811 Laurel St. Vancouver, BC
Best for: Japanese tea lovers, fresh snowskin mooncakes and matcha or hojicha desserts

Final Thoughts
One of my favourite things about celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival in Vancouver is that you don’t really have to choose between old and new.
You can still pick up the traditional lotus seed and salted egg yolk mooncakes your parents expect you to bring home, but you can also show up with a box filled with matcha, tea, lava custard or snow skin mooncakes.
And obviously, the correct solution is usually to buy both.
I’ll continue updating this list of the best mooncakes in Vancouver as more 2026 Mid-Autumn Festival collections are announced. If you know of a Vancouver bakery making something particularly special this year, send it my way.
