House of Tofu Soup is one of the old standbys for places to go for Korean food for me. It’s been around since I was in high school, and it’s always so nostalgic to eat here!
It’s about a ten minute walk from Lougheed Skytrain station, and I recommend the walk because there is very few parking spots available outside the restaurant.
When X and I arrived it was super busy. There’s only two waitresses and they were completely and totally swamped. We arrived at around 7:30 pm.
At all times there was at least 5-6 tables waiting so it’s a very popular place!
What I ate: Banchan (pretty standard, but the seaweed is my favourite banchan ever, so I usually come here just for that)
What I ate: Tofu Soup (Beef Option + Hot level spicy) ($11.99) and Dwen-jang Stew ($11.99)
Their soups are okay, but honestly all Korean soups pretty much taste the same regardless of where you eat it. The key point here is that they serve the rice from a stone bowl and they make nurungji tea (the burnt rice bits + barley tea) from it. It’s pretty delicious, but definitely an acquired taste.
What I ate: Bibim Noodle ($10.99)
This is pretty good during the summer time when you don’t want a boiling hot bowl of soup. I order it spicy, but I would say it’s on the milder side. It’s just noodles, lettuce, carrot shreds, and token shreds of beef and sauce. Pretty simple, nothing special.
Would I come back? Yes. I’ve been coming here for years, and I am in love with the seaweed banchan, so if I’m in the area, I usually come here for some good old comfort Korean eats.
