UPDATE: They have extended this menu until February 13th!
For an early birthday dinner I met with R for at Prestons for a delicious meal! I’m pushing this post out quickly because Dine Out is ending this weekend, and I think this $30 Dine Out is worth every penny!
What I drank: Gin and Tonic. Can’t have a birthday celebration without a drink.
What we ate: Korean style beef lettuce wraps with homemade kimchi and crispy pickled onions
This dish was so full of flavour! If the kimchi was really homemade it was on point! The lettuce that was provided was one of the most perfect leaves of lettuce that I have ever seen. I loved making the lettuce wraps and the portion was huge!
What we ate: Tomato coconut seafood bouillabaisse – rich and fragrant tomato coconut broth with smoked purple potatoes, fennel, and an assortment of seafood including salmon, prawns, clams, and mussels
Tempura short rib – 5 spice soy braised short rib, fried crisp, with Asian inspired ratatouille, yam mascarpone puree and XO sauce
The broth was incredibly rich and creamy and the seafood was just unbelievably fresh. The salmon was slightly overcooked (dry), but that was the only low point of this dish.
The tempura batter was way too thick on this, but once you remove it the short rib is tender. R finished the entire dish!
What we ate: Japanese cheesecake with coconut citrus dust, ginger praline pistachios, cremeux and citrus chips
Chocolate fondue with assorted cake and fruits for sampling
I had the cheesecake and it was just perfect. It was exactly as I expect a Japanese cheesecake to be with a light cheese taste and an unbelievably fluffy texture. The accompaniments went really well with the lightly sweet cheesecake, and I loved the little dollops of cream.
The fondue was another fun little dish tonight, and we only wished there was more items to dip into the very generous portion of melted chocolate! We ended up dipping some of the cheesecake into the fondue and the combination was so good!
I don’t believe any of these items are available on their regular menu (which is unfortunate), so I really recommend you check this out before DIne Out is over!
