I first heard of Beaucoup Bakery & Café after reading The Measure of My Powers by Jackie Kai Ellis, the founder of Beaucoup. I wasn’t able to make it here before the bakery changed ownership, but from what I hear, not much has changed. Under the ownership of brother and sister duo – Betty and Jacky Hung, Beaucoup has continued to flourish, and when Trudy and I came by on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon, the bakery was bustling with patrons.
Interestingly enough, I realized that Betty is the author of Yummy Workshop, which is a blog I’ve followed for years! What a small world! Her ‘Cookies for Santa’ recipe is my go to Christmas cookie recipe.
This is one of their signature desserts so I knew I had to get it! The crust is a bit hard (it’s impossible to eat this without crumbs everywhere!), but very buttery and delicious. The vanilla cream was smooth and flavourful and the apple square on top was full of delicious apple flavour. This dessert was a winner in my books!
My favourite place for almond croissants is at Thomas Haas, but I think Beaucoup just knocked them out of first place. This croissant was flakey, buttery and packed full of almond goodness. It was a delight to eat (super messy!), and I cannot wait to eat more!
Everything I tried at Beaucoup was delicious. They change their menu seasonally, but they always have their staples available. I would come early if you don’t want to miss out on their speciality croissants!
