To celebrate the holiday season, Torafuku is launching a very decadent limited edition Holiday Tasting Menu! This offering is only available from Dec 10-19, so I highly recommend you make your reservations ASAP. Earlier this week, I had an intimate dinner to experience this new menu and it was absolutely fantastic. Check out what I had below!
To Start – Holiday Tasting Menu at Torafuku
The menu starts with three appetizers –
- Oyster – Kusshi, house made xo sauce, Northern Divine caviar
- Squash Salad – roasted Delicata squash, guanciale, sherry gastrique
- Lamb Ribs – rosemary, black pepper rub, bread & butter pickle
The oysters are small and sweet. The caviar oyster was so luxurious and decadent – the brininess of the caviar went perfectly with the sweetness of the oyster. For the XO sauce oyster, the sauce was definitely the star and I wish I could take home a jar with me to put on all my dishes!
The Squash Salad is one of my favourite dishes of the night. The squash had lovely caramelized edges that were crispy and extra sweet. The guanciale adds a good salty balance to an otherwise sweet dish.
The Lamb Ribs were quite hefty with a delicious rosemary crust. The accompanying pickles had a great acidity and went well with the fatness of the lamb.
Mains – Holiday Tasting Menu at Torafuku
For the main course you get a choice of a meat option or a seafood option with a side of pain au lait:
- AAA Canadian Beef Rib Eye with black truffle jus + 24-Hour Short Rib
- BC Sable Fish with black truffle dashi beurre monté + Bouillabaisse
I got to try both mains, and while both were delicious, my personal favourite was the Sablefish. The Sablefish was so buttery and soft and I can never turn down a Bouillabaisse! This particular rendition features Totten inlet mussel, prawn, and fennel. The broth was rich and went well with the slightly sweet and ultra fluffy milk buns.
The pain au lait are the fluffiest buns I have ever had. I could absolutely devour an entire tray on its own!
The Beef Rib Eye was a perfect medium rare and was very tender. The short rib was on the fattier side, but still very flavourful. The black truffle didn’t overwhelm the dish and the flavour came through at the end.
Dessert – Holiday Tasting Menu at Torafuku
For dessert there is only one option – Opera Cake which features vanilla sponge cake, espresso buttercream and chocolate ganache. The layers were so lovely, and it was a nice rich finish to a very decadent meal!
Worth a Try?
Yes! For $80 per person, this menu is great value for the taste and portion. I was absolutely stuffed by the end of dinner! I have never had a bad meal at Torafuku and I highly recommend you check out their limited edition Holiday Tasting menu. If you aren’t able to do so, their sister company will be doing holiday to-go kits. Check out their Korean fried chicken Holiday To Go menu from Le Tigre Catering here.
