Maeda Kanazawa Sashimi Bowl – Luxury Kaisendon
There are so many different bowls to choose from, but I went with:
- Premium Seafood Bowl (14 kinds of sashimi)
- “Umami” Salmon & Tuna Bowl
- Family Bowl
- Maguro Zanmai
The Premium Seafood Bowl ($39.00) features chef’s choice of 14 kinds of sashimi on top of premium sushi rice. The sushi rice is made with seaweed paste, chopped ginger, bean curd and sesame, This bowl will transport you to a fisherman’s wharf in Kanazawa. When I went I got sockeye salmon, chutoro, akami, uni, unagi, amaebi and more!
The “Umami” Salmon & Tuna Bowl ($19.00) features sockeye salmon & albacore tuna with a house made salt seasoning sauce top of premium sushi rice. Check out the sheen on the fish! Even though it is made with salt seasoning, I did not find it too salty. However, I did find the sashimi was a bit chewier.
The Family Bowl ($24.00) features slices of sockeye salmon, ikura (salmon caviar), and house-made salmon flakes on top of premium sushi. This is a ‘family’ bowl because it features different stages of salmon, but it’s size is for one person! I like the different preparations of salmon in this bowl and the salmon flakes add a nice texture contrast.
The Maguro Zanmai ($32.00) is my favourite bowl of the four, although they were all excellent. This bowl features Blue Fin Tuna otoro (Fatty belly), Chutoro (belly), Akami (lean) and Negitoro (tuna belly with green onion) on top of premium sushi rice. Tuna is my favourite fish, so this was an absolute dream. The tuna just melts in your mouth – especially the otoro.
Worth a Try?
Yes! The sashimi bowls at Maeda Kanazawa Sashimi Bowl were all very fresh and delicious. I really enjoy the unique take on sushi rice with all the various seasonings, and I felt the price for quality and quantity was fair. It is on the pricier side, but the quality really is top notch!
