Hem 377 – New Vietnamese Cafe in Vancouver with Aesthetic Drinks

Hem 377 is a brand new cafe opening on Victoria drive that will serve Vietnamese coffee, snacks, and dessert. ‘Hem’ means alley in Vietnamese, while 377 refers to an alley in Ho Chi Minh City where the owner grew up. They will be soft opening this Saturday April 30, with 10% off their menu to celebrate. I came by before the opening to try a few of their beautiful drinks as well as sample their Vietnamese street food. Check out my full review of Hem 377 below!

Hem 377 – Vietnamese Coffee and More

Hem 377 stands out from the crowd by offering some very unique coffee combinations. Some of the more intriguing ones of their menu include Pina Colada, Mint Mojito and Peachy Peachy. For my visit I went with:

  • Ube Latte ($5.95)
  • Coconut Drip ($5.45)
  • Strawberry Matcha Cheesecake ($6.45)

The Ube Latte had a nice strong coffee base with a sweet ube topping. It was a very interesting combination that I didn’t think to combine. The ube topping reminds me of my favourite childhood Taro bubble teas!

The Strawberry Matcha Cheesecake is a fairly trendy drink in Korea right now, and the aesthetics of this drink do not disappoint. The strawberry layer is a housemade strawberry jam and it is divine. The matcha is on the weaker side, so if you’re a fan of milkier drinks – this one is for you! It reminds me of the one I had at Perchance.

The Coconut Drip was so yummy! It was coffee with coconut milk and the coconut really comes through. A very excellent pairing.

If you’re not a fan of coffee they also have drinks like Kumquat Coconut and Spicy Peach Tea!

Hem 377 – Street Food Snacks, Flan and Leng Keng Yogurt

Hem 377 is also making flans in house and they are so yummy! They come in the cutest little glass jars and have a variety of flavours including Vanilla, Pandan, Matcha, and Coffee. If flans aren’t your thing, they also have yogurt made by another small local business called Leng Keng.

For savoury options they have a Grilled Butter Baguette and Butter Corn with Small Shrimp. The Grilled Butter Baguette was essentially a deconstructed banh mi with chunks of baguette with house made pate, fish cakes or fried pork roll pieces and pork floss. It was really yummy! But my favourite was definitely the Butter Corn. The sweetness of the corn goes so well with the umami fishiness of the small shrimps. I need to learn how to make this!

Worth a Try?

Yes! If you’re in the area I would definitely recommend you check out this homey cafe. The owner is so passionate and friendly. I got to try Vietnamese street foods that I wouldn’t otherwise know of and the coffee, of course, was excellent.
