There’s a new dessert shop in Richmond and it has the cutest look! Milko Coconut Dessert just opened their doors near Westminster Highway and Cooney Road, across from the Richmond Public Market. Like their name suggests, they specialize in coconut milk puddings in a variety of flavours. The desserts come in the most darling glass jars with bright green lids. The packaging at this shop is impeccable. They have different sized paper bags that perfectly fit their coconut pudding jars, so there’s minimal shaking of the jars when you transport them. They have classic variations like strawberry, mango and original. But they also have more unique offerings like Durian, Purple Yam, Black Sticy Rice and Read Bean Matcha Mochi. Milko Coconut Dessert Richmond – Coconut Milk Pudding Jars
On my visit I decided to try two flavours first:
- Strawberry Coconut Milk Pudding
- Red Bean Matcha Mochi Coconut Milk Pudding
The Strawberry Coconut Milk Pudding ($9.99) features their original milk pudding with a layer of strawberry compote on the bottom, and topped with chunks of strawberry. The strawberry was fresh and sweet and went well with the lightly sweetened coconut milk. It was a light and refreshing dessert.
The Red Bean Matcha Mochi Coconut Milk Pudding ($12.99) features red bean, matcha pudding and a layer of mochi. This jar was disappointing for me. I found that the matcha flavour is too light, and I believe that they’re not using Japanese matcha, but rather the Taiwanese or Chinese matcha ‘flavour’ that has too much of an artificial taste for me. The mochi is also not very chewy, similar to the one at Car’s Dessert. So overall, I wouldn’t recommend trying this flavour.
Worth a Try?
Yes! These dessert jars are a light and refreshing way to end a meal or to enjoy a more guilt free dessert date with a friend. My parents were huge fans of these ‘not so sweet’ desserts so I think the older generation would really enjoy these. They’re also great as gifts with their excellent packaging! Milko Coconut Dessert also has a recycling program, where if you wash and return your jar with the lid you will receive $1 off for your next purchase.
