Little Flower Company Cake Design Atelier is a small family run business specializing in buttercream flower cakes and canelés. Their cakes are all custom designed with hand piped Korean style buttercream flowers. As the owners are from Hong Kong, the cakes are ‘not too sweet’. They also specialize in chiffon cakes which are like biting into a cloud. Little Flower Company started as an online business but they recently opened a darling little storefront on Fraser Street. While they are still mainly a preorder and pickup operation, they will on occasion have cake slices and canelés for walk in customers. Check their Instagram for daily updates!
Little Flower Company – Canelés, Chiffon Cakes and More!
Little Flower Company makes the best canelés in Vancouver. This little French pastry is a personal favourite of mine, and having tried them at many bakeries, I still come back to Little Flower Company. The basic vanilla canelé is spot on, but all their innovative flavours are also so delicious. They are always coming up with the cutest holiday sets, so keep your eye out for the preorder.
On my visit since it was during the Easter long weekend, I was able to try some of the special Easter flavours with the most adorable hand crafted fondant toppings! The flavours I tried were:
- Milk Tea Mont Blanc
- Madagascar Vanilla and Rum
- Chocolate Oreo
- Irish Coffee
The canelés all had the signature crisp caramelized exterior with the most perfect soft and tender custard center. The Milk Tea Mont Blanc was filled with a rich milk tea custard and was my mum’s favourite. As with all canelés it’s really important that you enjoy them within a few hours of purchase as they will lose their delightful crisp exterior if it sits too long!
In addition to their canelés, I also tried their Signature Pandan Cake, which was so fluffy and bouncy. Seriously, when you press down on it the cake will bounce back. There was a good Pandan flavour without being too sweet and my dad really liked this!
The Chocolate Oreo Chiffon consists of the airiest and softest chiffon cake piped with chocolate cream and cookie pieces. Considering the ingredients, you would expect it to be quite sweet, but it wasn’t! This was again a very delicate balance of chocolate flavours.
Worth a Try?
Yes! I have been a fan of their canelés since before the pandemic and I am so happy to see their bakery expansion. You can taste the love and care that Little Flower Company puts into their products. I highly recommend you give them a try the next time you’re on Fraser Street, or placing a preorder to avoid disappointment!
