A must visit spot for me every time I visit Osaka is the Umeda Sky Building (Kuchu Teien Observatory/Floating Garden Observatory). This iconic landmark in Osaka offers breathtaking views in an open air observatory. Umeda Sky Building is definited by its distinctive twin towers that are connected by a stunning Floating Garden Observatory. The observatory, situated on the 39th floor, serves as the highlight of the entire structure. This is a must add spot to any Osaka itinerary.
Umeda Sky Building – Admission, Hours, Best Time to Visit and more!
The Kuchu Teien Observatory inside the Umeda Sky Building is usually open from 9:30 am to 10:30 pm daily (with last admission at 10 pm). The admission prices are as follows:
- 1,500 yen for adults
- 700 yen for children ages 4-12

When you first enter the Umeda Sky Building, you have to queue for the elevator that will take 39th floor where the ticket counter is located. They have a separate line on the 39th floor for Osaka Amazing Pass holders. So make sure you keep an eye out for that so you don’t queue in the line for people without tickets.
My favourite time to go is an hour or so before sunset so that I can see Osaka in the daylight, at golden hour, at dusk and then at night. Now, this obviously will take a few hours, so if you’re in a rush, I recommend you go about 45 minutes to an hour before sunset. That is the best view time in my opinion.
It is generally very windy in the open air Kuchu Teien Observatory. So, if you have long hair, I definitely recommend tying it up or it’ll get really knotted in the wind.

Umeda Sky Building (Kuchu Teien Observatory)
At the Observatory there is a small area for you to lock your love! There are a ton of colours to choose from including red, gold, orange, blue, purple etc. But note, if the colour is sold out at the exchange counter when you arrive there are unfortunately no refunds. Each lock comes with laser engraving for two names. You can then choose to lock it at the Observatory or bring it home as a souvenir. This padlock is only available through the Klook limited package.
