Birdies Eats & Drinks is a brand new a California-inspired restaurant with a sunny attitude and a laid back atmosphere in Burnaby. They just opened and they’re already making a big splash. This brand new spot features flavour-driven food and drinks made with fresh, high quality ingredients. All of it is served in a casual, trendy dining room, spacious lounge, 20-seat terrazzo countertop bar or a 75 seat sun-filled patio. Birdies Eats and Drinks takes over the former Earls Bridge Park location at 3850 Lougheed. In addition to the restaurant space, there is also a Provisions area where customers can purchase ready-to-eat meals, ingredients and sauces. I came by to check out their brunch menu on a very sunny weekend and the space was positively bustling. It is definitely already a Burnaby hot spot! Birdies Eats and Drinks – Brunch Menu
Birdies has an extensive brunch menu that is available on weekends and holidays from open until 2 pm. There is a wide variety of items to choose from including salads, benedicts, handhelds and even pizzas! For brunch we went with:
- Brioche French Toast ($16.25)
- The Basic Benny ($18.25)
- Birdies Burger ($22.50)
- Hippie Hash ($16.25)
The Brioche French Toast features lemon curd, whipping cream, strawberry compote, maple walnut crumble and fresh berries. The toast wasn’t too eggy, and it was light and fluffy. A very sweet but delicious start to brunch!
The Basic Benny features eggs, hollandaise, toasted artisan bread, crispy potatoes & house salad. The crispy potatoes here are pave style. So thin slices of potato stacked together and then deep fried. It is so good. The benny is a solid rendition, and as fan of bread over English muffins, this was definitely my kind of breakfast.
The Birdies Burger was a decadent double patty, tomato jam, smoked bacon, American cheddar burger with all the fixin’s. The bun was so soft and fluffy and the burger was super juicy. If you’re looking to indulge, this is definitely the dish to order.
The Hippie Hash features poached eggs, avocado, crispy potatoes, feta, red pepper and grainy mustard jus. This was a rich hash, with the same potato pave bites. There are pickled red onions on top that help break up the richness of the hash.
Birdies Eats and Drinks – Dessert Menu
For our dessert we went with a Key Lime Bar ($12.00) which features fresh key lime juice, graham crumble and chantilly cream. They also have a rotating feature Soft Serve ($9.00), and on our visit it was an Orange Creamsicle flavour. It was really refreshing for the hot weather and I highly recommend getting one to share with friends.
Worth a Try?
Yes! This is a welcome addition to Burnaby for brunch. Everything is well executed and the dishes are very generous in portion. Wait times were a tad longer than normal, but as this is their first brunch service since opening, I kind of expected it. The vibes here are immaculate and the patio is enormous. It does get very hot (even with the umbrellas), so keep that in mind.
