H Tasting Lounge – Festive Afternoon Tea
This festive afternoon tea has 10 delectable handcrafted bites that are presented on a stunning gold Ferris Wheel:
- Gingerbread Madeleines and Dark Chocolate Peppermint Barks
- The Grinch – charcoal Paris-Brest, pistachio cassis filling
- The Christmas Cupcake – sticky pear and ginger cake, cream cheese frosting with candied ginger, snowflakes
- St. Nick’s Delight – Chocolate tart, white chocolate mousse, red glaze, gold flakes
- Chestnut & Wine – Valrhona blond dulcey 35% chestnut panna cotta, mulled wine gel
- “Stollen” Scone – housemade clotted cream, fig jam
- Christmas by the Sea – cured & smoked steelhead, spinach cream cheese, roasted pimento gel, fresh dill, dill pollen, blinis
- The Festive Turkey – smoked and confit turkey leg, earl grey tea-soaked apricot, fresh sage, brioche slider
- Cured Ham on the Rye – smoked local Granville Island ham, dried BC cranberry and cured bacon jam, dijon aioli, marble rye
- The Elegant Aunt – miso infused maple roasted yam “hummus”, sprouted chickpea, micro greens, 12 grain bread
Everything was well made and delicious but there were definitely some standouts for me. For the savouries, my favourites were Christmas by the Sea with smoked steelhead which went so well with the creamy spinach cream cheese and the zesty roasted pimento gel. The fresh dill and dill pollen add a burst of herbal freshness. The Cured Ham on the Rye has a nice smokey flavour from the ham but is balanced with the tangy jam. Additionally, the dijon adds a nice kick at the end. The Elegant Aunt takes a unique approach with miso-infused maple roasted yam “hummus”. It was an incredibly savoury sandwich with crisp chickpeas.
For the sweets, my favourites include Chestnut and Wine which was so smooth. The panna cotta just melts in your mouth. The Grinch is a showstopper, with its dramatic charcoal colour and the contrasting vibrant green pistachio cassis filling adding a great pop of colour. All the desserts were not too sweet which was perfect for me because I don’t have a huge sweet tooth.
Worth a Try?
Yes! I had such a lovely afternoon here with my friends just chatting, catching up and enjoying this lovely spread. The had a very talented harpist playing and the ambiance was just perfect. It’s a great spot for afternoon tea with friends and loved ones and I highly recommend you check it out! I have always been a huge fan of H Tasting Lounge and this afternoon tea is no exception.
