HeyTea is a world famous tea chain that originated in China and now has a global presence in places like London, Melbourne, and Singapore. Their first Canadian location is at Crystal Mall in Burnaby. HeyTea takes over the former location of Chewgurt Yummy. HeyTea offers an array of teas, from classic brews to innovative concoctions. Whether you’re a purist seeking the perfect cup of oolong or adventurous spirit craving a cheese-topped fruit tea, Hey Tea has something to satisfy every palate. Their signature “Cheezo” series, featuring creamy cheese foam atop various fruit teas, is a must-try for those seeking a unique flavor experience.
For Easter they are running a limited promotion – an exclusive 10% off discount on some of thier best selling beverages, including Cheese Green Tea (Original), Grapefruit Boom Tea (Original), Mulberry Boom Tea, Strawberry Boom Tea, and Taro Coconut Milk, available every day after 4PM during the promotion period of March 30th – April 5th, 2024.
HeyTea Burnaby – What to Order and My Recommendations
This is my first time trying HeyTea and I can see why it’s so popular! Although they are really busy, they run a really efficient operation with clearly printed numbers on their drinks and your receipt as well as two large screens to show when your drink is being prepared and when it is ready for pick up.
The drinks at HeyTea do not have an artificial ingredients or colouring. They only use the freshest fruits and natural cane sugar to craft their delicious tea drinks. And honestly you can really taste the difference! For my visit I got two of their most popular drinks:
- Mango Grapefruit Sago
- Grape Boom Tea
The Mango Grapefruit Sago ($8.99) features fresh seasonal mango cubes, real grapefruit pulp, soft textured sago infused into the Aqua Green Tea with Mango Ice Blend. This drink was super refreshing! All the flavours work so well together and in particular the grapefruit adds the perfect hint of citrus to balance all the fresh sweet mango.
The Grape Boom Tea ($8.99) is probably my new favourite drink ever (yes, even better than The Alley!) It features Aqua Green Jasmine Tea slushie, grape juice, fresh grape pure and HeyTea’s signature clear jelly (made with real cane sugar and agar agar). This drink is like being hit in the face with a really strong grape flavour. Nothing tastes artificial and the drink is so bright and refreshing. If you love grapes definitely order this! I’m a huge fan of the clear jelly – it’s got a slippery texture with a bit of chew. Really unique!
Overall, I was really impressed with HeyTea. I can see why the lines are so long and why people are willing to queue for it. Personally, I won’t wait more than 20 minutes or so. But I do appreciate that the estimated wait times are pretty accurate. Therefore, I can go walk around Crystal Mall and do some grocery shopping and then pick up my drink on the way out.
