Coast Restaurant Launches a Classic Seafood Boil in Downtown Vancouver

If you’re looking for a seafood boil in Vancouver, Coast Restaurant has launched a seriously impressive new option right in the heart of downtown.

Known for fresh seafood, oysters and elaborate seafood towers, Coast has been a longtime destination for seafood in downtown Vancouver. Its new Classic Seafood Boil takes things in a slightly more casual direction, with whole lobster, Dungeness crab, tiger prawns, mussels and clams piled together for a feast designed for two.

And at $150 for two people for three courses, there is a lot of seafood hitting the table. The Coast Classic Seafood Boil is available Tuesday through Saturday after 5 PM at Coast Restaurant on Alberni Street.

What’s Included in Coast’s Seafood Boil?

Caesar salad from the Coast Classic Seafood Boil dinner

You start off with a classic Caesar Salad. The portion is generous and features romaine hearts, bacon, croutons and parmesan. It was a very refreshing way to start off the meal. But the star of course is the Fresh Catch seafood boil.

The boil includes:

  • 1 lb whole lobster
  • 1.5 lb whole Dungeness crab
  • mussels
  • clams
  • tiger prawns
  • corn
  • potatoes
  • chorizo sausage

Everything comes together with a cioppino broth and Old Bay seasoning, giving it that savoury, slightly spicy seafood-boil flavour. For me, I found the broth to be extremely salty, but that was my personal preference. The seafood itself was very fresh and the highlight for me was the sweet Dungeness crab.

Overall, the combination of whole lobster and Dungeness crab also makes this feel considerably more substantial than your average shrimp-heavy boil. After working your way through what feels like an ocean’s worth of shellfish, dessert keeps things refreshingly simple.

The meal finishes with key lime pie served with seasonal berries and lime sorbet. It’s exactly the kind of dessert I want after a rich seafood dinner. Bright, tart and refreshing rather than something overly heavy.

Worth a Try?

For $150 for two, Coast’s Classic Seafood Boil offers pretty solid value for a downtown Vancouver seafood dinner. You’re getting three courses, with the main event featuring a whole lobster, 1.5 pounds of Dungeness crab, tiger prawns, mussels and clams. It’s also a fun change from the usual steakhouse or tasting-menu date night. You’re cracking crab legs, pulling apart lobster and inevitably negotiating over the last prawn. If you are looking for a seafood boil in Vancouver that feels a little more polished while still being casual and interactive, this one is worth a try.
