The Side Door at Seaside Provisions

Although many restaurants in Vancouver have had to temporarily suspend their dining room operations due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, many have pivoted to takeout and delivery during these trying times. Seaside Provisions is one such restaurant with the launch of The Side Door. Their chef’s are cooking up incredible “fish-shack” inspired favourites for everyone to enjoy in this lovely weather by the pier. Having tried their dine-in menu previously, I was really excited to try out their new take out offerings!

Starters – Lobster and Prawn Rolls and Shrimp Cocktail

The Lobster and Prawn Rolls ($18.00) were my favourite from my last visit and they were as delicious as I remember. Each order comes with three rolls packed to the brim with lobster, prawns, and celery dressed in a lemon aioli. The toasted brioche bun is soft and airy and buttered on both sides.

The Shrimp Cocktail ($18.00) features large sustainable shrimp and was served with their house made cocktail sauce and fresh lemon. The portion size was quite generous. The shrimp was fresh and bouncy. The cocktail sauce added a nice tang. This is a nice starter to share.

Hot Dishes – Fish and Chips and Buttermilk Fried Chicken

The Fish and Chips ($14.00) smelled heavenly when I opened the box. Freshly fried wild pacific cod dipped in a golden beer batter and fried to perfection. The outside was crunchy, and the fish was moist and delicate. The house made tartar sauce was some of the best tartar sauce I’ve ever had. It was heavy on the dill and very creamy. The fries were also crisp and skinny – just the way I like it. At $14 this is an absolute steal. It is an incredibly hefty portion and it also came with a generous side serving of coleslaw!

The Buttermilk Fried Chicken ($18.00) was another favourite. The chicken is marinaded for 24 hours before being fried. The meat was moist and juicy (even the white meat!). It’s served with Lonsdale hot dip which was like a creamy spicy mayo. It wasn’t too spicy and gave a nice kick to the dish.

Sides – Fresh Coleslaw and Old Bay Potato Salad

All the menu items (aside from the Fish and Chips), is served with a lovely fresh coleslaw & Old Bay potato salad. The slaw was really refreshing and had a lovely nutty taste from the sesame dressing. The potato salad had nice big chunks of potato with a nice dill based dressing. They are packaged separately so the dressings don’t mix.

Although the new menu is small, it is focused and every item was executed wonderfully. These dishes can be preordered directly through the restaurant (604.973.1473) or through their delivery partners (DoorDash and UberEats).
