Mochido is a brand new concept operating out of a cloud kitchen in Vancouver. They are a small team with a big passion for food and they are the first to bring mochi donuts to Vancouver! I am obsessed with mochi donuts (also known as pon de ring), and I am so happy that there is now an option to have these in Vancouver. Previously, a few years back there was a ramen shop offering mochi donuts but they weren’t really the same. Mochido will start selling their premium mochi donuts in Vancouver starting April 1.
Mochido currently has 6 flavours available: black sesame, matcha, churro, strawberry, salted brown butter, and milk tea. These flavours will be rotating frequently and are all made with fresh, real ingredients (no artificial flavours!). I had the opportunity to try these ahead of their official launch. The donuts blew my mind. They are almost exactly like the pon de ring from Mister Donut in Japan. The donuts were perfectly chewy with a slightly crisp exterior.
My favourite of the bunch was matcha, black sesame and churro. Overall, the donuts are on the sweeter side, but they are a dessert so that is to be expected. My only critique is that these donuts are definitely on the oilier side. The cardboard box it came in was soaked through with oil by the time I got home 30 minutes later.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed all of the donuts. They were definitely fresh (still warm!) when I got them, and the chew was on point. Mochido will officially launch on April 1 and you can place your preorder here starting at 9 AM. Mochido is definitely up there in my top 3 donuts shops!
