Gram Cafe & Pancakes has a brand new location right at The Amazing Brentwood in Burnaby. This new cafe is right inside the mall but has an exterior entrance. It is a great spot with lots of glass windows that allow for plenty of natural sunlight. Gram Cafe & Pancakes is serving up a variety of sweet and savoury fluffy Japanese souffle pancakes that you absolutely cannot miss out on. Gram Cafe Brentwood is a must try spot for your next girls date or coffee date!
What are Japanese Soufflé Pancakes
Soufflé Pancakes are the fluffy lighter cousin of your standard American style pancake. The difference is in the eggs. Egg yolks and egg whites are separated, and the whites are beaten to make the meringue. The egg whites are beaten until stiff peaks form and then are folded gently and carefully into the rest of the batter. This results in extra fluffy pancakes that are light and airy – like a soufflé!
Gram Cafe & Pancakes Brentwood – Bite of Burnaby Special
Gram Cafe & Pancakes is offering a special menu for Bite of Burnaby. Bite of Burnaby is a culinary festival (similar to Dine Out Vancouver) that showcases the variety of restaurants available in Burnaby. The festival will feature set menus from $15, $30, and $60 for people to enjoy the diversity of food in Burnaby. This is a great way to support local while having tasty food. Most restaurants will have a dine in and take out option however, some restaurants will be exclusive to either dine in or take out.
The $15 menu at Gram Cafe & Pancake is called “Bite of Premium Pancakes”. For $15 you will receive It 2 fluffy soufflé pancakes, a strawberry rose, house-made whip cream and butter. On the side you will receive a fresh cup of JJ Bean coffee.
The pancakes definitely live up to their name of being soft and fluffy! When I cut into the pancakes a huge cloud of steam escaped. The pancakes are so moist and they went so well with the pancake syrup, butter and whipped cream. For $15 this combo is a total steal!
Gram Cafe & Pancakes Brentwood – Savoury Pancake Menu
As I went to Gram Cafe at lunch, I was very curious to try their savoury pancakes. We went with:
- Bacon and Scrambled Egg Pancake ($16.00)
- Salmon and Avocado Pancake ($18.00)
There is an option to upgrade the pancakes (for an additional charge) to soufflé pancakes so of course we did that!
The Bacon and Scrambled Egg Pancake comes with golden smoked bacon, scrambled eggs and a side Cesar salad. The bacon was thick cut and was cooked to a lovely crisp. The eggs were very creamy and went well with the fluffy soufflé pancakes. It’s a unique take on breakfast, that elevates regular bacon and eggs to something special.
The Salmon and Avocado Pancake comes with smoked salmon, avocado and a side Cesar salad. Of the two savoury options I prefer the former. However, if you’re a fan of Lox, this is a unique take on the flavours of a Lox bagel. The avocado on this visit unfortunately was under ripe and as a result it wasn’t the best texture. However, the dish was still tasty overall!
Worth a Try?
Yes! I’m a huge fan of soufflé pancakes and Gram Cafe does a solid job. It definitely reminds me of being back in Japan! The new location at the Amazing Brentwood in Burnaby is so stylish with lovely green foliage and lights throughout the restaurant. It’s a great spot to enjoy some pancakes leisurely with a coffee. The service was very friendly, even though the restaurant was quite busy on a Thursday afternoon. You should definitely check out the Bite of Burnaby special (available until March 31) before it’s gone!
