Oiso Kimchi Cafe – New Spot for Korean Food on Kingsway

Oiso Kimchi Cafe - New Spot for Korean Food on Kingsway

Oiso Kimchi Cafe is a brand new spot serving up homey Korean comfort food in Vancouver. The small and unassuming spot is bright and airy with plenty of indoor tables. It is a no frills order at the counter and sit down type of spot. There is a good variety of dishes to choose from including their signature Kimchi Stew, Kimchi Makooksoo Noodle (perfect for the summer!) and other meat dishes. I came by last weekend to try a few of their dishes and I left full and impressed! Check out my full review of Oiso Kimchi Cafe below.

Oiso Kimchi Cafe – Kimchi Stew, Noodles and More

For our lunch we went with:

  • Kimchi Stew with Beef Brisket
  • Kimchi Makooksoo Noodle
  • Pork Belly Sooyook
  • Yuzu Snowman Sorbet

The Kimchi Stew ($16.00) comes with your choice of protein. You can choose from pork belly, beef brisket, tuna and tofu. Definitely pick the brisket – it’s so thick and tender. The kimchi stew was flavourful with a nice deep flavour. There are generous chunks of tofu and kimchi in the stew and even rice cake!

The Kimchi Makooksoo Noodle ($15.00) was the star of the day. This dish features cold buckwheat noodles, sesame and cucumber. It was light and refreshing with just the right punch of vinegar. It was so good on a hot summer day. Almost every table had this dish – so you know it’s going to be delicious!

The Pork Belly Sooyook ($19.00) comes with a refreshing onion salad and kimchi. The pork has a green onion sauce that reminds me a bit of Hainanese chicken.

Fans of Damso and Milssam Tacorea will remember their signature Yuzu Snowman Sorbet dessert. This cute little snowman is back on the menu at Oiso Kimchi Cafe and it’s the perfect way to end your meal. The sorbet is packed with yuzu flavour and the sorbet is smooth without being too icy.

Worth a Try?

Yes! This spot is such a nice addition to Kingsway and I’m a huge fan of their homey approach to food. The kimchi here is excellent, and I love that it comes in almost every dish. Would highly recommend you check out this spot. It’s also very close to T&T Supermarket, so drop by after a grocery run – you won’t be disappointed!
