I am currently on a brunch kick. I’ve had brunch every weekend since the start of 2023, and I have no plans on stopping any time soon. This weekend I went to a hidden gem – Wild Thing on Main. This concept comes from the creators of Wild Thing Snack Bar on Powell Street. Unlike their predecessor, this spot has a much more casual vibe and a larger menu that includes breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. They also offer meat options! Check out my full review of my brunch at Wild Thing on Main below.
Wild Thing on Main – Brunch Menu
For our main brunch dishes we went with:
- Florentine Benny ($16.00)
- Caesar Salad ($16.00)
The Florentine Benny features scallion and garlic braised greens, baked brie, poached eggs, hollandaise on top of a butter biscuit.
The eggs are perfectly poached with the most stunning orange yolks. I didn’t really taste the brie, but overall this was a solid benny. The butter biscuit was a flakey, buttery dream. Do note that this dish does not come with sides.
The Caesar Salad features mixed greens, Caesar dressing, smoked potato skins, butter biscuit croutons, deep fried poached egg and parmesan. The greens were well dressed, but the stand out was definitely the smoked potato skins. I could snack on them all day! The only thing that didn’t work for me on this dish were the croutons. They were dense and tasted really stale.
Wild Thing on Main – Breakfast A La Carte Menu
To supplement our brunch dishes we also got a few sides:
- Scrambled Eggs and Chives ($6.00)
- Potato Gratin with Hollandaise ($12.00)
- Small Batch Hand Cut Bacon ($5.00)
The Scrambled Eggs and Chives were light, creamy and fluffy. I’m definitely ordering a biscuit for these next time! The Small Batch Hand Cut Bacon, was crispy and thick. I like the texture and the smokey flavour.
The stand out side though was definitely the Potato Gratin with Hollandaise. So many thin layers of potato and creamy sauce! It’s like the best scalloped potatoes you never had at Thanksgiving.
Worth a Try?
Yes! This place is tucked away on Main Street, and it’s a blink and you miss it kind of spot. However, it is definitely worth seeking out. Their brunch dishes were fantastic and the service was very good. Overall, if you’re looking for a brunch spot on Main Street, you need to check out Wild Thing.
