Ono Authentic Hawaiian Poke has been on my food bucket list for ages. I have seen countless posts about it and thought about going for so long. I am so happy to say that it was absolutely as good as I thought it was going to be. Ono Authentic Hawaiian Poke stands out from the rest because of their commitment to using fresh, high-quality ingredients. Their poke is always fresh and never frozen and honestly you can really taste the difference. We liked our visit so much the first time, we went back for round 2 less than 24 hours later on our way back to Vancouver. For anyone heading into Seattle from Vancouver, you absolutely need to add Ono Authentic Hawaiian Poke to your must try list!

Unlike most poke shops in Vancouver, Ono does it the traditional way with just your choice of marinated fish, a couple of sides (like Hawaiian Mac Salad, seaweed salad etc.) and choice of rice or salad. The bowls come in three sizes – Small ($15.98), Regular ($20.50) and Large ($23.98).

Since we came on a weekend they had Hamachi available. So we went with the Large ($23.98) on sushi rice and salad with a very large scoop of spicy masago hamachi and traditional limu ahi. For our sides we went with the Mac Salad. Everything works so well together. The creamy and fresh poke with the vinger sushi rice and the salad greens. It’s a symphony of flavours and textures.

The Spicy Masago Hamachi features masago, green onions, hot chili oil, tamari, ginger, garlic, chili peppers, togarashi, sambal and Japanese mayo. The fish was so fresh and meaty and the flavours were so creamy and delicious. I am honestly so obsessed with this! The Traditional Limu Ahi features Big Island limu, sweet and green onions, mirin, sesame oil and sesame seeds, ginger, garlic and chili peppers. It was lighter due to the lack of mayo and the flavour of the fresh tuna really comes through.

The Mac Salad has elbow macaroni, a creamy sauce and copious amounts of black pepper. It’s zingy and flavourful and I could eat a bucket of this and be happy.

Worth a Try?

YES! I cannot express in words how much I loved the food here. The space is pretty sparse with a few tables for dining in, but the service was very friendly and welcoming. The food is where it really shines. Every thing is prepared fresh and they are so generous with their scoops! The Large size fed three of us very comfortably and I was so tempted to pick some up to-go. But sadly I didn’t have a cooler with me and I didn’t want to risk it on a 2 plus hour drive back home.
