Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar is one of my favourite places for Happy Hour. I’m a huge fan of the ambiance, the food and their service.
Their happy hour runs daily from 3:00 to 5:30 pm. There is a large selection of small plates to choose from as well as beer, wine and cocktail options.
The purpose of this visit was to try the Orchid Negroni. It is a special feature cocktail that features Sipsmith London Dry Gin. It was a strong cocktail with punchy notes from the Ume and grapefruit bitters.
We also tried the Spring Blossom which features Cinzano Orancio, Campari, Lillet Blanc, raspberry puree and soda water. This drink was stronger than I had originally anticipated, with the raspberry puree getting lost.
I would be remiss to go to a oyster bar and not order any oysters! So whenever I come, I always order at least a dozen oysters to start the night. The oysters were fresh and plump and shucked well. They are served simply with a shallot mignonette that enhances the briny flavour of the oysters.
These are the best chicken wings I’ve ever had. The fish sauce caramel is divine and forms a lovely crust over the perfectly fried chicken. The funkiness from the fish sauce is tempered by the bright acidity of the pickled vegetables.
The cod was well fried and the sriracha mayo added a nice kick to the dish. The taco itself was on the drier side, so the mayo added some much needed moisture to the dish.
As always, Boulevard lives up to my expectations. The happy hour is one of the best deals in town, and their chicken wings are to die for!
